Earthquake and Hurricane Irene

So this last week was pretty eventful here in Maryland. On Tuesday, Aug 23rd around 2 pm, I had just put Connor down for his afternoon nap when I started to feel my apartment move. At first I thought " Oh there must be a truck driving by outside the apartment complex" Then the move was getting stronger and stronger. I looked out the window to see that the tree right outside the apartment looked as if someone was shaking it pretty hard. Pretty soon I could hear the apartment building move and realized that this was an earthquake. I ran in to grab Connor (who thankfully hadn't fallen completely asleep) and held him for a minute and then it was over.

Apparently there was an old fault line somewhere in Virginia and it caused a 5.9 earthquake on the Richter scale. It was felt up to Canada and into Ohio.

Then Wed/Thurs we started to get ready for Hurricane Irene to come our way.  The winds and rain weren't supposed to come til Sat evening/early Sunday morning. So we made a trip or two to the store and made sure we had what we needed and then Sat evening around 10 or so the winds and rain really started to pick up. (all day Saturday was really rainy/windy) That night before we went to bed (like 1 am.. Church had been cancelled) I looked out the window and the tops of the trees were swaying really hard. It reminded me of video footage of other hurricanes and the trees are almost bending in half. Quite the experience. Fortunately, we didn't lose power (though MANY did) and we were fine.

I am looking forward to what this week will bring. Hopefully just sun and less humidity :)
